Fatherhood 101: Unboxed Gift

Dear Son,

Your coming has brought love and joy beyond description. It’s more than enough reason for me to drop everything I do. I am on the side of your mother when you see the first light of this world.

When you spoke your first word, when you walked your first steps, I was your biggest fan. With every milestone you reached, I reveled in joy and celebration. You taught me the meaning of love — true, unconditional love.

Ever since the day I held you in my arms, I knew that you will forever be my lucky charm. It seems that it was only yesterday that I held a new life in my arms that changed my perspective, redraw my priorities, and revisited my dreams.

I trembled in fears when I first carry you into the journey of our lives. But when you beamed your first smile, you freed me from grief and sorrow. And in your silence, I hear you speak, “Don’t worry Dad, we gonna be okay.”

Thank you so much for being my unsung hero when life is hard and is breaking me apart. When the depths of pains visit me, when the trials of life wring me, when all my armies become my enemies, thank you for being my loyal ally and friend forever.

Thank you for creating memories that I can be proud of, for the friendship that I can live with, and for the preview of your future beyond the horizons of my dreams.

On the day you were born, all my griefs and miseries were forgotten, and a new day and hopeful day started. Then I realized that the best gifts in the world are not always wrapped in boxes. They also come in the form of loving son like you.

Best of love,
